Those with advanced skills can add a dimple to the surface of this silver pendant project for additional visual interest. Finish with a metal chain or a cord.
This is the last in the series of three articles handcrafting the Suite Holiday 2007 Pendant. The first article outlined the basic, beginner instructions to handcraft the sterling silver elemental circular pendant. The second article continued processing the pendant, if desired, with a dapping block.
For those with more advanced metal working skills, this article will create a dimple on the face of the pendant to add surface interest. The cord is also finished with terminators.
Images on this page show the pendant hung on a sterling silver and gold filled chain. Where to buy these chains has previously been posted via blog. This is a stylish and easy alternative to using the black cord. (The blog also has information on where to buy the black cord.)
Place the pendant, good side up, into a cup in the dapping block. Place the wood dowel, protected end on the pendant, near the hole at the top of the pendant and gently tap with a hammer to create a dimple. Tap, tap, tap – check the size of the dimple. Repeat until the dimple size is as desired.
The coil terminators will have a hook at one end – see Image #1. Place the clasp on the terminator hook and using a pair of needle-nose pliers, close the hook around the clasp – see Image #2.
Glue the ends of the black cord into the coil terminators. Allow to the glue to set for a few hours and hang your pendent on the cord.
